Think of the word "Heath" - what does it suggest to you? Wild, open space, empty, solitary. What about "Cliff" - rugged, steep, difficult etc. Now think of Heathcliff's character in the novel - wild, rugged, solitary, loner, menacing etc. Agrees doesn't it?
